What is somatic face release?
Short answer: Somatic face release is a treatment that works with the muscles, lymphatic flow and nervous system of the face — not just the surface of the skin. Through soft, listening touch it helps the jaw, forehead and the area around the eyes let go of tension we often carry without noticing. You leave not only with brighter skin, but with a calmer nervous system and a deeper presence in your body.
The face is one of the first places stress settles. We clench the jaw when we concentrate, tighten the forehead when we worry, hold our breath through a heavy day. Over time it becomes a pattern the body forgets it is holding.
What "somatic" means here
Somatic simply means through the body. Instead of chasing a symptom, a somatic treatment begins in what the body is already saying — where it holds, where it withdraws, where it wants to slow down. The touch is not hard or "corrective". It listens.
At Innsaeiland this is how we work with the whole method: the body as entry point. Somatic face release is that entry point applied to the face, one of the most expressive and most tense areas we have.
How a treatment feels
Most people describe three things afterwards:
- A lighter jaw. The chronic clenching lets go, often for the first time in a long while.
- Deeper breathing. As the face relaxes, the breath follows.
- A calmer mind. The nervous system shifts from "on guard" to "safe enough to rest".
During the treatment, gentle facial massage is combined with work on the lymphatic flow and calm, present touch. The pace is deliberately slow — it is in the slowness that the body dares to let go.
Why the face holds so much
We smile when we do not feel like it. We hold it together through meetings, commutes and demands. The face is where we present ourselves to the world, and so it is also where much of the unprocessed gathers. Releasing tension there can feel surprisingly big — sometimes emotions move, and that is a natural, safe part of the process.
Transformation is not about becoming someone else, but about remembering who you were before the stress and the survival patterns took over.
Who it is for
Somatic face release suits you if you carry a lot in the jaw and face, if you want to slow your nervous system down, or if you are curious about an entry point to yourself through the body rather than through thought. It is educational and experiential — not a medical treatment, but an invitation to listen inward.

Frequently asked questions
Is somatic face release the same as a facial?
No. A regular facial focuses on the surface of the skin and appearance. Somatic face release works with the underlying muscles, the lymphatic flow and the nervous system. The skin often looks brighter as a side effect — but the goal is for body and mind to settle, not just for the skin to look fresh.
Will I feel relaxed straight away?
Many people describe a lighter jaw, deeper breathing and a calmer mind after the very first treatment. How you respond is individual — the body releases at its own pace, and you always stay in control of the tempo.
Can emotions come up during the treatment?
Yes, that happens. As the body begins to release stored tension, it is natural for emotions to move. It is a safe and calm part of the process, and you always decide how far you want to go.
